Tool
The e-WindTech tool cosists of:
- E-learning course on the most important and useful knowledge that windmill maintenance technicians must have.
- Virtual reality simulations of a windmill and its parts.
- An experimental e-learning platform, adapted to the virtual reality simulations and courses.
The contents of the elearning course are:
- UNIT 1 - WIND ENERGY
After the unit the student will:
- know what wind is and how it varies with altitude
- be able to calculate the kinetic energy of wind
- know how to interpret the power curve of a wind turbine
- know how the kinetic energy of wind is converted into electricity
- how to identify the best places to site a wind turbine - UNIT 2 - DESCRIPTION OF A WIND TURBINE AND ITS COMPONENTS
After the unit the student will:
- know the most important milestones in the development of wind energy and wind turbines
- be able to identify the different types of wind turbines
- identify the different components of a wind turbine
- know how to locate the main components of a wind turbine
- know how the components relate to each other - UNIT 3 - INTRODUCTION TO THE MAINTENANCE OF WIND TURBINES
After the unit the student will:
- be able to differentiate the different types of wind turbine maintenance
- be able to interpret the work instructions
- identify some of the factors which can cause failures or breakdowns in a wind turbine
- identify the main indicators which permit the proper working of a wind turbine or a wind farm to be assessed
- acquire ideas on the documentary management of wind farms - UNIT 4 - PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE OF A GENERIC WIND TURBINE
After the unit the student will:
- know the main preventative maintenance tasks to be performed on a generic model wind turbine by following a control register.
- be able to carryout the inspection of the blades of a wind turbine and identify the typical failures
- be able to carryout the inspection of the gears of a wind turbine and identify the typical failures
- know how to obtain a precise torque tightening of a bolted joint
- know how to obtain a precise tension tightening of flanged joints - UNIT 5 - RISK PREVENTION IN THE MAINTENANCE OF WIND TURBINES
After the unit the student will:
- identify what the main risks are in the maintenance of wind turbines
- know some of the basic rules to prevent risks associated with working at heights
- know some of the basic rules to prevent electrical risks
- know what the personal protection equipment is and how to use it
